Adair MacLaine was sunshine and the storm. Emerald-green eyes and attitude, I fell for her the moment we met and hated her just as quickly. Five years ago, tragedy brought her to my door and sparked a love that consumed us like wildfire—hot, unpredictable, and impossible to control. We raged together until her father made her choose between me and the family name.
I left. She stayed.
I’m no longer the poor kid that lost her. I’ve made myself into a man that won’t be ignored.
Now her father is dead, the MacLaine empire is crumbling, and Adair’s inheritance depends on the company’s largest investor: me.

My whole life changed the night I met Sterling Ford. Brilliant and intense, he came to Valmont with nothing but a scholarship and a chip on his shoulder. He was a grenade and I wanted to pull the pin.
We were doomed from the first kiss.
I’m not the girl he left behind. I’ve waited for my chance to seize my freedom and it’s finally in reach until the last person I ever wanted to see again walks into my father’s funeral: him.
From New York Times bestselling author Geneva Lee comes the first chapter in an emotional, breathtaking love story that will leave you obsessed and begging for more.

    Good but cliffhanger
  • Great Read

I couldn’t stop reading as I found myself really getting into the story line and wanting to be more involved with the main characters. Very related characters. The main characters definitely had a lot more in common than they ever really thought. More to how they felt about each other than they truly wanted to admit.

  • Review: The Rivals 1: Blacklist

    By LisaHines711
Blacklist by Geneva Lee is the first book in her brand new series, The Rivals . Told in dual POV between Adair MacLaine and Sterling Ford, this is a story that builds slowly with overlaid pieces of the past and the present slowly coming together to build a picture of motive and explanation for the characters now. From Sterling's scholarship attendance to Valemont Academy to his life of wealth and privilege years later. From Adair's confined world of wealth and entitlement to the slow decay of her family's business at the hands of the MacLaine men. For me this was a slow-build of an interesting, dark, conniving world and I'm excited to see where we go after that cliffhanger, if and when Adair can finally get her privileged feet underneath her and her backbone in order. The friends are interesting and also vapid, as the old-money wealthy tend to be but there is a small but solid circle of support around Adair if she chooses to utilize it. Sterling is an enigma. His back story is building but we don't know enough yet of what happened in the past to make him leave, of what his perceived insult/betrayal was and more. And while I am sure book two Backlash will answer more questions I'm already eager to know those details. Enjoy!
  • What a book that kept me on my toes!

    By Samantha B. Sokol
What a book that kept me on my toes! I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book or where it would go, but as I started to read I got hooked and now I am DYING for the next installment to hopefully answer all the questions! Adair grew up wealthy, but she always found herself realistic about the society and lifestyle she lived. Desperate to get out of the restraints of what’s expected from her father, she ends up meeting Sterling, who was at school on a scholarship, and they bicker and clash tremendously. I found myself totally behind Sterling and rooting for his determination to cause a reckoning for those who have wronged him, but also was rooting for Adair to finally break free of the family and the unhappiness she clearly has by following her dreams and leaving. I was also so interested to see what all happened between Sterling and Adair and why she was added to his list, but also where things end up going between them with the plan they’ve created together. With the cliffhanger at the end – I am absolutely dying to see what happens next and understand more behind Sterling and what’s happened to him. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Wow! What a great start to a new series. Geneva Lee has done it again. With strong characters and a great plot this is a hit. Revenge, love, hate and all the emotions in between pour off the pages. What will happen when the love of your life shows up five years later intent on destroying you and your family? I guess you will have to read to find out. The Blacklist is your next must read.
  • Bravo to this Blacklist!

“I’m the devil, come to collect.” Once I read that sentence, I knew it was going to be a wild ride and I was right! In college, Sterling and Adair had a connection at first glance, but that turned into cutting remarks and pushing each other’s buttons. But one night changes that, and they can’t stay away from each other. We go back and forth between the present and the past to build the tension and story between them. What happened in their past to make them hate each other now? What plans does Sterling have in the present? Who is on his blacklist and why? So many questions that need answers, and I can’t wait to read more of this series and find out! Especially with that cliffhanger! Adair was a tough character to crack for me. I don’t want to say more and spoil it, but throughout the book I found myself caring about her. Sterling really was the devil, and I was fascinated by him both in the past and present! This did not have as much steam, shall we say, as I like as it was a slow burn/build. Bravo to this author for doing an amazing job of slowly building this world, these characters, their love story that played on emotions and made me salivate for what comes next. I definitely recommend this book! *I received an advanced copy of this ebook for my honest review.*
  • Secrets, Lies, and Slowburn

    By Embell0830
It's a new series, it's a new world, and it's been a roller coaster ride that left me on the edge of a cliff. Meet Sterling and Adair, who are from opposite worlds; you'll go from despising them to loving them to repeating the cycle. It's enemies to loves with feelers of a second chance. It's angsty, suspenseful, and the burn is as slow as pouring molasses. The story is presented from both of the main character's POVs and switches between present and five years ago. The author definitely has a talent for weaving all these intricate webs of secrets, lies, and deceit, and just when you think you're going to get some answers, the proverbial blanket is ripped out from under you leaving you with even more questions, but still wanting more. The secondary and tertiary characters are a pretty despicable set and I look forward to learning more about.
