It is a science fiction short story by Kurt Vonnegut, originally published in the digest magazine Worlds of If Science Fiction, January 1962, and collected in Vonnegut's Bagombo Snuff Box (1999). The title is pronounced "2 B R naught 2 B", referencing the famous phrase "to be, or not to be" from William Shakespeare's Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. In this story, the title refers to the telephone number one dials to schedule an assisted suicide with the Federal Bureau of Termination. Vonnegut's 1965 novel God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater describes a story by this name, attributing it to his recurring character Kilgore Trout, [1] although the plot summary given is closer in nature to the eponymous tale from the short-story collection Welcome to the Monkey House.

  • Woah

I didn’t know what to expect going in. A very curious and dark thought experiment. It changed so suddenly towards the end there. I’d imagine the writing would be much more fluid in its native language

I had downloaded this book in the free section of the Books app. I think it’s a delight to have access to these books and many more on the App. Along with this book I downloaded Swift’s, “A Modest Proposal”. In hopes to compare the two with regard to their “Ideas” of population control. A funny albeit grim read it definitely feels right at home in the dystopia that’s has become the year 2020. It gave my a chuckle or two, and in such a short time to be able to full flesh out these characters is a feat in and of itself. Love Vonnegut Jr. and I always will. Keep reading, A.

This is one of my favorite authors and he never disappoints. It’s a shame it’s so short.

How many worlds reside in the vast mind of one Kurt Vonnegut Jr? Truly engrossing in less than 20 pages.
  • Not Perfect,,,

It’s by no means a perfect story, and given the option I would have rated it a 4.5. However I did very much enjoy it. Though predictable I give that to it’s age, and my biggest complaint is how overly explained 2BR02B is as if the reader is stupid. It’s short and simple, it conveys its message clearly and it kept my attention.
  • Pretty dark

A suitably quick ending to such a short story. I’d say it’s a good read with some good insight on human nature.
  • 2BO02B, that is the question, isn’t it?

Interesting story, as are all of Vonnegut’s. Has a good point. I recommend everyone reads at least Welcome to the Monkey House, then you’ll be hooked on Vonnegut and learn a very different perspective on, well, everything!
